MaterialsMaterials Needed:
- Paper
- Scissors
- Cardboard
- Two clips
- Watercolors or instant coffee
- A tray
- Feathers
- A small jewelry ring
- Fabric in your preferred color
- A cord
- Glue
- Silicone (optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Prepare the Paper
To start, first take the sheets of paper and carefully fold them in half. Then fold them in half again and unfold them.
Next, use the scissors to cut the sheet in half widthwise. Repeat this process with several sheets until you have the desired amount of pages. The more pages you use, the thicker your notebook will be.
Carefully tear the edges of the paper by hand; this way, you can create a natural and, as a result, rough look
2. Color the Paper
fill a tray with water and then dissolve a bit of watercolor paint (yellow or brown works best). Alternatively, you can choose to dissolve a teaspoon of instant coffee in the water to achieve a vintage effect.
Submerge each torn paper into the water one by one, then take them out and place them in a safe spot to dry. Once dry, the pages will have a slightly rough texture and an aged appearance.
3. Assemble the Notebook
Once the papers are completely dry, carefully fold them again and neatly stack them one on top of the other. Then, secure the stack with two clips, placing one at the top and the other at the bottom.
Spread a thin layer of glue along the folded edge of the stack. Let it dry, then apply another layer of glue if needed. Once the glue is completely dry, remove the clips.
4. Create the Cover
Cut a piece of cardboard that is 0.5 mm larger than the size of your paper. Apply glue to the cardboard and cover it with the fabric of your choice.
Next, fold the extra fabric edges inward, and afterward, glue them securely to the back of the cardboard to ensure a clean and polished finish.
5. Attach the Cord
First, apply a small amount of glue to the inside edge of the cardboard, and then carefully attach one end of the cord
Glue the notebook spine to the center of the cardboard. Then, apply glue to the outer edges of the first and last pages of the notebook and attach them to the inside of the cover. Close the notebook and let it dry.
6. Decorate the Cover (Optional)
To decorate, use a hot glue gun to create a spiderweb-like design on a ceramic surface. Once the silicone has cooled, carefully remove it and paint it if desired.
Next, attach the silicone design to the cover using small glue dots, and then trim any excess edges for a neat finish.
7. Add a Feather Closure
First, take the feather and cut it to the size you want. Next, punch a small hole in the sturdy part of the feather. Then, thread it through a jewelry ring, and finally, secure it in place.
Tie the cord to the jewelry ring and then wrap it around the notebook. After that, make a small knot using the feather to keep the notebook securely closed.
And you’re done!
Your handmade notebook is ready to use. Perfect as a personalized gift or a unique addition to your stationery!
